After ‘Mere Pyare PM, Rakeysh Mehra’s next is an ode to V Shantaram

Even as the trailer of veteran filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mere Pyare Prime Minister about a child’s plea to the nation’s Prime Minister for better sanitation facilities in the slums gets unveiled today, the audience will get to witness the director’s ode to iconic filmmaker V Shantaram in March.

A source reveals that Rakeysh looks up to V Shantaram’s work and has factually grown up watching his films.  “In the film, the festival of Holi is the turning point and an significant part of the narrative. And the director couldn’t think of anything better than V Shantaram’s iconic song ‘Jaa Ret Hat Natkat’ from the film Navrang, to be part of this scene,” he says adding that an original score has been composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy and written by Gulzar.

“They have used just a part of the old song as a tribute to Asha Bhosle and V Shantaram.” Though the film deals with a serious subject of open defecation and sanitation problems in the country, the filmmaker has made sure that it is very colourful and inspiring.
