On the lines of the anti-Romeo squad, the Yogi Adityanath government has set up an anti-land mafia task force in Uttar Pradesh.
The BJP government, complying with the promises it made in its Sankalp Patra, has set up a high-powered task force in UP to ensure that the land mafia and the encroachers are brought to book and land or property grabbing can be stopped.
The task force has been empowered to take action even against those who encroach on public land in the name of religion. The task force will be submitting a report on all illegal encroachments and action will be initiated against the perpetrators.
In a clear and stern message, the government has made it clear that even those encroaching on land in the name of religion will not be spared.
The task force would soon submit a report from tehsil to the district and state level about such encroachments. Action would be initiated thereafter.
The 4-tier task force would be headed by a principal secretary followed by commissioner, DM and SDM in their respective areas.
Briefing media persons, cabinet minister Shrikant Sharma indicated that many notorious land grabbers had already started vacating the land or property they had illegally occupied. “After the cabinet decision to build a task force, even other such miscreants will start vacating illegal properties”.
When asked what would the government do if BJP’s own leaders were found indulging in similar practices, the minister categorically said, “No one will be spared regardless of the stature they enjoy even in our party”.
Cases of illegal occupation of government land and construction of places of worship on these illegal properties are rampant in Uttar Pradesh.
It remains to be seen whether the Adityanath government will make land where shrines have been illegally constructed encroachment-free.
