Women’s ODI-Australia thrash India
The Indian women cricket team suffered its second successive defeat when it lost its match to Australia in its penultimate league encounter in England on Wednesday.
The loss to Aussies means that the team India will have to beat its next opponent New Zealand to enter the semi finals. The Indian team had earlier lost to South Africa by a margin of over 150 runs.
The Indian team had won four consecutive matches against the host nation England, the Pakistan, the Sri Lanka and the West Indies and was in fine mettle. The team lost its momentum in the next two matches against Proteas and Kangaroos and is now facing the threat of making an exit from the tournament.
The team India at the same time has come out in flying colors in individual glory as its captain Mithali Raj became the highest run getter among women in the ODI. Raj achieved the feat when she crossed the total of over 6,000 runs in ODI tournaments to register her name in history.
Earlier both Indian openers Poonam Raut and Mandana have set the stand ablaze with their brilliant centuries and the stylish left hand bowler Bhist came out in flying colors in the match against arch rival Pakistan.
The Indian team had stunned the World in its opening game by defeating the host country England after posting a total of over 300 runs. The England team could not chase the Indian total and that gave enough confidence to the team India to achieve greater heights.
Team India showed its mettle when It skirted out the Pakistani team despite getting out within 200 runs as its bowlers bowled their hearts out to continue its winning streak against Pakistan. The Indian team enjoys a unblemished record against Pakistan as its has come out victorious in all the 12 encounters between them in the ODI.
Team India was in high spirits and the fans were hoping for winning the World Cup and the indomitable team won its first four matches very convincingly. However it faltered in two matches and is now finding itself in a tight corner as it has to win its last encounter against the Kiwis to join three other teams in semi finals.
Among the teams participating in the World Cup, it is now almost certain that the Australia, South Africa and the host nation England will qualify for the next stage with the fourth position poised for a tantalizing finish between the team India and the New Zealand side.
Unfortunately for the Indians the opener Mandana who was in devastating form in earlier matches has gone into a shell and failed to get enough runs in subsequent matches. Her early dismissal put lot of pressure on other bats women and the team India is getting paid for it.
On the bowling front, the veteran Julan Goswami also failed to get going and the pace bowler who had led India in the past is causing some worry with her listless performance. On the plus side is her achievement as she has become the highest wicket taker in One Day Internationals. One hopes that she would recover her form in the all important match against New Zealand to keep India in the hunt for the top honor.
