‘Wonder boy’ Bhuvi shines at wanderers
Sunday belonged to pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar at Wanderers as he came out to take his career-best figures of 5-24 to steer India to a 28-run victory over South Africa in the opening three-match series of Twenty20 International.
After South Africa put the Team India to bat first on a flat wicket, they went on to score 203 for the loss of five from the allotted 20 overs. Opener Shikhar Dhawan hit a magnificent 72 from 39 deliveries.
It is India’s highest total against South Africa in the shortest format of the game, with debutant seamer Junior Dala (2-47 in four overs) who emerged as the most successful bowler from host nation.
The home side ended-up at175 for nine, continuing their struggles against the tourists in the T-20 format after being battered five-one in the ODI series.
South Africa was dealt a blow prior to the match as their in-form batsman AB de Villiers was ruled out of the series due to a knee injury.
The second Twenty20 clash is to be played in Pretoria on Wednesday, with the final match on Saturday in Cape Town.
