Top MMRDA Officials in the dock.
They are accused of conniving with a contractor for illegally bagging tender worth Rs. 70 crore
Two senior engineers in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) A.K.Pahal (Additional Chief Engineer) and P.K.Veni (Executive Engineer) have been suspended for illegally assisting a contractor for bagging tender worth Rs.70 crore. They had provided NA Constructions fake certificates and work experience letters based on which the contractor won tenders in States such as Haryana. .
The MMRDA commissioner, Urvinder Pal Singh Madan, confirmed the development. saying that both the Senior Engineers have been suspended and a departmental enquiry has been launched against them. suspended AK Pahal and PK Veni for giving false certificates to a contractor.
The MMRDA is directly monitored by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, to stem corruption and expedite the project. This is the first of its kind action against the agency’s senior officials. One of the major projects undertaken by the MMRDA is the Mumbai Metro One.
Congress legislator Aslam Shaikh, who played a part in exposing fraudulent contractors, said the MMRDA must file a criminal complaint against the two engineers. “This could just be the proverbial tip of the iceberg. All certificates issued by these two engineers should be probed”.
