The FIFA tournament to be held in D.Y.P Stadium Navi Mumbai

Kolkata, the cradle of Indian football, will hold the final of the 2017 FIFA U-17 2017 FIFAWorld Cup  later this year at the Yuva Bharti Krirangan in The City of Joy.

The six proposed venues for India’s first ever FIFA tournament are New Delhi, Goa, Kochi, Navi Mumbai and Guwahati.  In Navi Mumbai’s it will be held at the D.Y.P.Stadium on 28th October. Each venue will hold at least eight matches.

The semifinals will be hosted  at Navi Mumbai and Guwahati. According to Javier Ceppi, the Tournament Director of the Local Organizing Committee , “It is a happy day for him since all the questions on the match schedule will stop being asked. They can finally focus on other things. It has been an extremely complicated process to finalize the schedule to have a World Cup in India – different festivities, weather patterns, and different timelines. October is a month of festivities and the FIFA wishes it to be a festival of football.

This is the first time that India is hosting a FIFA tournament. It will be also the first time an Indian team will play in a FIFA competition. In recognition of the increasing excitement about the beautiful game in India, ‘Football Takes Over’ was the first and most fitting choice as the Official Slogan for the tournament.

Apart from India, who has qualified due to their standing as the hosts, the other qualified countries are: Iran, Iraq, Japan and Korea DPR (from AFC), Brazil, Paraguay, Chile and Colombia (CONMEBOL), followed by New Caledonia and New Zealand (from OFC).

Teams representing countries from Europe (UEFA), North and Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF) and Africa (CAF) will qualify in the coming months.

The draw for the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 will take place on 7 July in Mumbai..
